Financial Advisor and CPA for Crypto Investors
A flat-fee CPA and Financial Planner team that gives you personalized, holistic advice across your taxes and financial plan. We plan your crypto sales, staking income and cost basis, and file your returns.

What we handle for crypto investors
The crypto work that carries a form, a deadline or a tax bill, planned with the rest of your money.
- 01
Form 1099-DA reconciliation
Brokers reported gross proceeds on Form 1099-DA for 2025 sales. For 2026 sales they also report basis, but only for coins acquired in 2026 or later in the same account. A coin bought earlier or moved in from another wallet arrives with no basis, so your CPA supplies it before filing.
- 02
Cost basis by wallet and account
Since January 1, 2025, basis is tracked separately for each wallet and exchange account, not as one pool across them. A transfer between your own wallets is not a sale, but its basis has to move with the coins.
- 03
Staking and mining income
Rewards are ordinary income at their fair market value when you gain control of them, and that value becomes their basis for a later sale. Mining run as a business also owes self-employment tax.
- 04
Short and long-term gains
Coins held one year or less are taxed at your income tax rates when sold. Held longer, the rate is 0%, 15% or 20%, and for 2026 the 20% rate starts at $545,500 of taxable income single or $613,700 joint. See the net investment income tax for the 3.8% on top.
- 05
Estimates after a big sale
A gain in March means an estimated payment by April 15, not next April. Your CPA sizes each payment after a sale so it brings no underpayment penalty. 2026 estimates are due April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15, 2027.
- 06
Your federal and state returns
Your CPA files from the CoinTracker tax reports you upload, with each sale and swap on Form 8949 and the digital asset question on Form 1040 answered correctly. Nothing is filed until you approve it.
How Nino helps crypto investors

On an Advisor plan your CPA and Financial Planner see your crypto next to your bank, brokerage, retirement accounts and home, and plan all of it together.

Ask before you sell
Tell your CPA the trade before you place the order and get the tax on it, including what it does to your next estimated payment. A CPA you see only in April hears about it after the fact.
Which crypto choices change your taxes?
Four decisions to make before a trade, not after the 1099-DA arrives.
Whether to harvest losses
Under current law the wash sale rule covers stock and securities, not crypto held directly, so you can sell at a loss and buy back. Crypto ETF shares are securities. A bill approved by the House Ways and Means Committee in September 2026 would extend the rule to crypto sold after September 14, 2026 if it becomes law.
How to treat lost or stolen coins
Most personal theft losses are not deductible, a limit the 2025 tax law made permanent. A loss to an investment scam can still be, when it was theft under state law, the transfer was made for profit, and there is no reasonable prospect of recovery. Your CPA documents the facts before claiming it.
Whether to give or donate coins
A gift is not a sale: the recipient takes your basis and holding period, and gifts above $19,000 to one person in 2026 need a gift tax return. Donating coins held more than a year deducts their fair market value without the gain, but a claim above $5,000 needs a qualified appraisal.
How much of your net worth to hold in crypto
If bitcoin is 40% of your net worth, a 50% drop cuts your net worth by 20%. Your financial planner sets the share you want to hold and a selling schedule, and your CPA times the sales across tax years. See crypto CPA or financial advisor.
