What we handle for creators
Ad revenue, subscriptions, brand deals and tips from every platform end up on one Schedule C. This is the work behind it.
- 01
Every 1099, matched to your payouts
YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Patreon and OnlyFans may send a Form 1099-NEC, a 1099-MISC, a 1099-K or nothing at all. For 2026 payments, a 1099-NEC is required at $2,000 or more, and a payment app or marketplace files a 1099-K only above $20,000 across more than 200 transactions. Income below those lines is still taxable.
- 02
Brand deals and gifted products
A sponsorship paid in cash is business income. Products a brand sends in exchange for a post are income too, at their fair market value when you receive them, the same as being paid and buying them yourself.
- 03
Self-employment tax
On top of income tax you owe 15.3% once net earnings reach $400: 12.4% Social Security on earnings up to $184,500 in 2026, and 2.9% Medicare on all of it. It applies to 92.35% of your profit, and half of it is deductible.
- 04
Quarterly estimated payments
Nothing is withheld from a payout, so you pay through estimates: April 15, June 15 and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027. To avoid a penalty, pay 90% of this year’s tax or 100% of last year’s, or 110% if last year’s AGI topped $150,000.
- 05
Deductible costs
Cameras, lights, microphones, editing software and an editor’s fees are business costs. A home studio counts only if the space is used regularly and only for the work, at $5 a square foot up to 300 square feet on the simplified method. Wardrobe counts only when it is not suitable for everyday wear, such as costumes or a dancer’s stage outfits.
- 06
Schedule C and your returns
Your CPA prepares your Schedule C from your profit and loss, then your federal and state returns, so every platform, deal and cost is accounted for. Nothing is filed until you approve it.
How Nino helps creators
Creator income arrives from several platforms on different schedules, and the tax on it is due four times a year. On an Advisor plan one CPA and Financial Planner team sets your estimates, prepares your returns and plans your household around the months a channel slows down.
Book a free consultation-
A plan in your first two weeks
Your CPA and Financial Planner build a tax and financial plan from your last return, this year’s payouts and your goals, then revisit it every quarter.
-
Estimates that follow your income
Your CPA sets each quarter’s payment from what you actually earned and adjusts it when a big sponsorship or a quiet month changes the year.
-
Every account in one view
Nino’s AI software connects your bank, card and investment accounts read-only, so you can ask how much of a payout to set aside for tax before you spend it.
Which choices shape a creator’s taxes?
Four decisions that matter more once your income is steady.
When an S corporation election pays
With steady profit, an S corporation pays you a reasonable salary and the rest as distributions, which owe no self-employment tax. Payroll and a separate business return come with it. Form 2553 is due within 2 months and 15 days of the start of the year it takes effect. See business owners.
SEP IRA or Solo 401(k)
Both allow an employer contribution of 20% of net self-employment earnings after the half-SE-tax deduction, and both top out at $72,000 in 2026. A Solo 401(k) adds a $24,500 employee deferral, so it usually saves more. See the SEP IRA and the SEP IRA calculator.
How to keep your home address private
A business entity, a business mailing address and an EIN on the W-9s you give platforms and brands keep your home address and Social Security number off contracts and payout forms. The entity is formed with your state; your CPA plans how it is taxed.
How to plan around an uneven year
Set aside tax from each payout as it lands, base household spending on what a slow year pays, and size a cash reserve to your quiet months, not your best one. Your financial planner builds that into your plan.
